HEALTH OF THE PRESIDENT: BUHARI CANCELS MEDICAL TRIP, INVITES FOREIGN DOCTORS
Ailing Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari had indicated he was going to travel back overseas to continue receiving treatment for ill health when he returned on March 10. He has cancelled the trip and invited doctors to Nigeria to attend to him instead, according to Sahara Reporters.
The cancellation may indicate a more severe health crises than is suspected, seeing the 74 year old President, since returning, has not been seen in public, and while away, was suspected by many to be too fragile to continue as head of state.
Some weeks ago, officials in his government told Reuters that the president spends less than 4 hours in his office daily. Amidst reports of the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo being widely preferred due to his efficient handling of the nation in the period the president was away, President Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu tweeted that the President works from home even when civil servants have closed.
It is believed, as posted by Sahara Reporters, that the President has been advised against leaving Nigeria again, given prevailing economic crisis.
